Email Marketing - All You Need to Know
![]() |
Intro
Email is one of the most effective channels in digital promotion. Email marketing is the use of email in order to promote the brand and customer service through email. Email marketing is a basic tool for internet marketers, and most companies can use it. Companies are allowed to use this method only with the permission of subscribers.
Advantages
Email marketing helps to build long-term relationships with customers. You can sell through advertising, but only emails allow you to contact a person directly. Emails help you to tell them what is important and interesting to them, help them make the right decision. If you surround the reader with care in every email, then over time you will become more than just another company that wants to sell its product.
"According to a study conducted by Edelman DXI on behalf of Mailchimp:
95% of marketers agree email marketing has an excellent ROI
9 out of 10 marketers say that email marketing is very-to-extremely important to their overall marketing strategy
4 in 5 customers prefer email over any other form of communication."
It also can help with retention and increase in repeat sales. Attracting new customers is always more expensive than retaining old ones. Emails effectively bring users back to the site — they come back to make purchases again and again. According to a study by Gigaom, 56% of respondents named email marketing as the most effective channel for retaining customers.
Last but not least, emails accompany the user at all stages of decision-making. If you sell a complex or expensive product, then users usually do not immediately decide to make such a purchase. That is where emails come in handy, they help potential customers get to know you better, understand all the nuances and after some time make a choice in favor of your company.
Disadvantages
Now let’s also talk about the disadvantages of this method. Here are some of the common ones:
Spam Issues: People’s inboxes are often cluttered with irrelevant messages like "Click here for a big discount." Most recipients delete these instantly, and many emails never even reach the inbox, ending up in spam or junk folders instead. Unless you actively work to avoid spam filters, these emails are often a waste of time and effort for the sender.
File Size Problems: If your email is too large, it may take a long time to load—or fail to load altogether. During this delay, potential customers may lose interest and do not want to waste their time which may result in lost opportunities.
High Competition: Email marketing is widely used, meaning your email will be one of many in a recipient's inbox. To stand out, you may need to invest in skilled copywriters or offer extra promotions to grab your audience's attention.
Engagement Challenges: Customers might sign up for emails after seeing a single ad or offer, but that doesn’t guarantee they’ll stay engaged. They may not open future emails or click through to your site. Keeping your audience engaged requires ongoing effort, or you risk high unopened rates and increased unsubscribes.
Design Limitations: Emails are accessed on various devices, such as phones, tablets, and computers. If you don’t design emails specifically for each platform, recipients might see a poorly formatted version. AND IT IS VERY UNATTRACTIVE! This can lead to odd breaks, missing visuals, or logos, making the email hard to read and easy to mistake for spam. Such emails are often deleted quickly and provide little value.
Hidden Costs: While many email services claim to be free, they often charge extra for features like adding images or exceeding word limits. Additionally, costs can add up when hiring someone to design templates, build a contact database, or manage email distribution. These expenses can strain your budget if not carefully planned.

Email Types
There are multiple marketing email types that can be used. The examples are: welcome, newsletter, lead nurturing, confirmation, dedicated, invite, promotional, survey, and seasonal. All variations can be useful if used accordingly. Here is the link for you to read more about each of them - Check them out here
My Opinion
Email marketing can be really helpful because it is a systematic promotion of the company's products. Sustainability is the key and this approach helps building long-term relationships with the client, increase repeat sales and develop expertise. In order to fix errors and improve it is important to correctly collect the customers' data by using subscription forms on the website and social networks for this. Just remember to track analytics and send out emails regularly.

Hey, Aleksandr! I totally agree with your points about email marketing! It’s such a great way to build strong relationships with customers and keep them coming back. You are right that it’s important to make your emails stand out since everyone’s inbox gets spammed with messages. Personalized content and tracking how well your emails are doing are key to making sure they are effective. I also like how you mentioned the hidden costs, like paying for extra features or design help, which a lot of people might not think about. Overall, email marketing is super powerful when done right! Great job explaining both the pros and cons!
ReplyDeleteHi Aleksander! I liked your blog. I enjoyed the way you examined this from a "advantages and disadvantages" pov. I liked how you looked at the issue of spam. I get so many random emails in a day, basically none of which I actually look at. I hadn't considered design limitations--that some servers don't work well with certain designs and that you'd have to cater to certain platforms. Overall I thought your blog was well organized and engaging. Good job!
ReplyDeleteHi Aleksander, I really enjoyed your blog post here and reading about it. Like myself, I didn't know much about marketing through the email app. But after reading your blog and some other peoples blogs, I really feel like I have a much greater understanding of how to market using email. Looking at the issue of spam was a big one for me, and I am glad you addressed it. I also find it annoying when I get a bunch of spam in my email. Great post here and I look forward to reading your blogs the rest of the semester.
